Jazzin' in Jax The City of Jacksonville announces an exciting lineup of activities for the 2010 Jacksonville Jazz Festival Thursday, May 27, through Sunday, May 30. Among highlights of the event's lineup are: Spyro Gyra; Chris Botti; Jason Miles' tribute to Grover Washington, Jr.; Basia; Darren Rahn and Tim Bowman; Ledisi; Patti LaBelle; the Superstars of Jazz Fusion featuring Roy Ayers, Tom Browne, Wayne Henderson, Ronnie Laws and Lonnie Liston Smith; and Bernie Williams. It's a street festival downtown on multiple stages and all events are free -- novel, eh?
Live, Good Concept! Emmis St. Louis programmer Jason Church writes: "I am currently working on an idea for a show that would consist of all 'live' concert recordings to air on Sunday nights. In order to even consider this option, I would require much more 'live' music than the tunes I currently have in my collection. Any help would be fantastic!" Please send product to: Jason Church, Music Director KIHT 96.3 HD-3, 800 Saint Louis Union Station, The Powerhouse, St. Louis, MO 63103; 314-613-7858 (office) or JChurch@stl.emmis.com.
Shanachie Set to Release Patti Austin's "Sound Advice" Grammy-winning chanteuse Patti Austin was born to sing and not just sing but to connect with millions worldwide through her undeniable gift of storytelling. Throughout her illustrious career, Austin has used her voice as a beacon of light in the music industry and beyond, creating timeless anthems and lending her voice to causes like her own Blue Movement (Austin's campaign to end domestic violence), cancer awareness, children's rights, mentoring and other issues important to her. Patti Austin's uniquely identifiable, crisp honey-toned alto, along with her impeccable phrasing, sultry song styling and ability to take on any musical genre, have made her a treasure in American music.
Topping charts as diverse as R&B, dance and jazz, Austin has collaborated with everyone from her godfather Quincy Jones (most recently on "We Are the World 25 for Haiti"), Michael Jackson ("Off The Wall"), James Ingram ("Baby Come to Me") to Luther Vandross, Diana Ross, George Benson and Bette Middler, to name a few. On Aug. 31, Shanachie will release her label debut, "Sound Advice," a collection of powerful songs with potent messages that have personal meaning to the singer. The release follows Austin’s Grammy-winning tribute to George Gerswhin, "Avant Gershwin" (Rendezvous).
"Superlatives just don't tell the story. Sure, she's an amazing singer, but it's the depth of feeling in Patti's heart and soul that she expresses through her music -- that's what the whole world loves about Patti Austin," says Shanachie VP Jazz A&R Danny Weiss.
