PPM: Good News, Not Such Good News WLFM/Chicago continues to inch upward, climbing 1.5-1.7 6+, and increases cume to 521,300. Pretty impressive, all things considered. Clear Channel's KYOT/Phoenix rises 2.9-3.4 for 12th 6+, and the station's cume grows 499,700 to 517,700. KYOT PD Smokey Rivers says, "Even though we advanced 2.5-3.0 A25-54, I live in a house that includes three of the top five stations in the demo. That being said, we are less that a share out of the top 10, and .1 of a rating point out of top 5. "I am concentrating on becoming less polarizing to people in the PPM panel who might check out our act. My goal is to add 100,000 cume listeners. I think we've become too core-sensitive. We cannot miss a chapter in the evolution of compatible popular music. Leona Lewis, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Buble: they make the songs that can help us stay relevant to 25-54's. We know how many people dig us for being unique. We need more. If the instrumental songs are all ours, let's look for vocals in the shared music stack. "It's also smart to use the low-or-no-cost digital marketing tools available us all. Our fans will work for us if we ask them. Meanwhile, the sales team works at selling the outstanding qualitative profile we generate." Jefferson Pilot's KIFM/San Diego jumps 3.5-4.2 to rank seventh; and gains in cume 377,500- 400,200 -- playing minimal ossified gold. On the other hand, Sandusky's KWJZ/Seattle dips 4.2-3.3 to 15th, but increases cume: 435,700-447,300. Poor beleaguered CBS Radio's WSJT/Tampa drops 2.6-2.1 to 17th, but builds cume: 235,000 to 248,000.
Earl's Pearls The recent LeWOW evening of music to raise funds for Deborah Lewow and Emory University's ALS Clinic was a whopping, sold-out success, with more than 30 SRO seats sold. Even KWJZ/Seattle PD Carol Handley and E1 Music VO/Adult & Jazz Chuck Mitchell showed up for the festivities, which were hosted by Russ Davis and Atlanta air personality Kelly McCoy. Earl Klugh writes in Facebook: "Wow, what a great evening we had last night! Thank you to all of you who came out to the show! There was lots of love shared for one of the best people I know. Deborah Lewow has worked for years promoting the artists she believes in so much. This show gave us, the musicians, a way to thank her for all the years she has championed not only our careers but that of so many artists. Deborah was diagnosed with ALS - Lou Gerhigs Disease - last year, and all of the proceeds from the concert will go towards her medical needs and ALS research at Emory. Boney James, Mindi Abair, our incredible band made up of my regular keyboardist David Lee, and several great Atlanta-based musicians: Joseph Patrick Moore, Will Green, Eric Essex, Gaurav Malhotra; our other special guests Joey Sommerville, Yonrico Scott, Drew Davidsen, hosts Kelly McCoy and Russ Davis and everyone who participated in the evening, were all amazing and so generous with their time and performance. Thank you all so much. We all came away with mixed emotions for sure, but the overall feeling was so positive and strong it’s hard to put into words. We love you, Deborah! |
