Harmonic Lounge founder/host and former WJZA&WJZK/Columbus PD Bill Harman believes that smooth jazz music is still very viable and that there is an audience to support it. "I also believe that we will no longer see just one direction on our future path, but a variation on the theme that will fit each individual market. "It was interesting to note those who understand the need for proper music flow among the other aspects it takes to make this work. This is so important with the product we handle. When someone asks me what I do, I tell them that I produce and host a three hour audio story at the Harmonic Lounge. It takes me a lot of time to put this story together each week with many factors involved including tempo, instrument separation, vocal selection, texture and the list goes on and on. I don't feel it matters whether you're doing a down-tempo show like mine or an up-tempo show like Shannon West programs at WLRQ. It does matter that you know how to put it together. A lot of pretenders know the parts to build the bomb; they just don't know how to put it together for maximum boom. "This format (and music) can reinvent itself. It will continue to work on terrestrial radio in smaller markets and thrive and expand on the Internet. We will see more specialty shows. After some time, SJ will again appear in major markets after a company with the third AC or fourth rocker sees that they can do what got this format to the ball game in the first place -- that is, create a different kind of quality radio station with a loyal audience that will give them ample return on their investment in spite of PPM. Now is the time to grow our vision so we can be viable once again."
