Necessary Losses Don't Make Them Easier We offer deep respect and gratitude for the amazing legacy that the following artists left behind with their deaths in 2009. Many thanks, as ever, to jazz programmer/maven Lawrence Tanter for providing this list. He says, "These giants made our lives better with the 'gift of music.' They were creative artists and contributors, who dedicated their lives to making our journey enjoyable. Their contribution was remarkable: Kenny Rankin, Wayman Tisdale, David "Fathead" Newman, Michael Jackson, Koko Taylor, Bud Shank, Hank Crawford, Willie Mitchell, Blossom Dearie, Pop Winans, Les Paul; Louie Bellson, Rashied Ali, Hank Spann, Johnny Carter, Buddy Montgomery, Gerry Niewood, George Russell, Charlie Mariano, and Jack Nimitz."
