Bruce Lundvall Update Congratulations to titanic jazz record executive and Blue Note President of more than 25 years, Bruce Lundvall, who has been named the label's Chairman Emeritus. He remains ensconced in EMI's New York offices, where he will continue to pursue projects and signings which have distinguished his venerable career.
At the same time, Manhattan Records President Ian Ralfini also assumes daily responsibilities as Blue Note President. He is another extraordinary record man, who originally signed Fleetwood Mac to Warner Bros. U.K., and more recently, the global phenom Celtic Woman, whose second PBS special you may have caught during the network's recent pledge drive.
Voting Online Begins For Canadian SJ Awards The start of the year always marks a fresh start, a new beginning and an opportunity for Smooth Jazz fans to vote for their favorite artists on the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards website. Voting for the Sixth Annual Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards kicks off January 11 and runs until February 19, 2010.
Wave 94.7/Toronto/Hamilton MD and awards co-chair Mary Kirk says, "We're always amazed at the huge number of fans around the world who take time to cast their ballots online in support of their favorite artists. They have the power!"
The recipient of the 2010 George Benson Lifetime Achievement Award is saxophone superstar David Sanborn. Beginning his solo recording career in 1975, Sanborn has earned the highest respect from his peers, radio and legion of fans.
The Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards will take place on Friday, April 23 at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. Kirk says, "Smooth Jazz fans are already anxious to get their tickets for what they tell us is the highlight of their year. They love the LAC theatre, the hilarity and camaraderie of the event and above all, the unsurpassed quality of the music performed at the show."
