More alternate approaches to music programming

Inspired, O'Neill responded: "[Mindi's] reasoning is behind a change we made in Madison on Oct. 4. We've had 14 years of top ratings and sold out sponsorships for Kathryn Vaughn's five-hour 'Magic Sunday Morning' show, but it was increasingly difficult to create a Smooth Jazz show next to a successful AC format.”

He adds that he doesn't have the luxury of waiting for Sade's next release. "But I still want the atmospherics that Smooth Jazz provides, so we expanded the playlist, and expanded the hours each Sunday from 7a.m.-7p.m. and call our new show 'Sunday Smooth.'

"The sound evolves and becomes more familiar (and vocal) as the day rolls on, demonstrated by the noon-1p.m. hour. I know you were a fan of the 1970s KNX-FM ("The Mellow Sound")/Los Angeles, and I think we may have a touch of that in this approach. Listener response has been at least 80% positive."
