More alternate approaches to music programming

KIFM/San Diego PD/morning host Mike Vasquez responded directly to Kepler: "I must say, I really appreciate your optimistic outlook and all you guys do to create excitement for our format. Also, thanks for stepping up and keeping the lines of communication open for the entire panel."

ABC Radio Network's VP Formats Programming (and former WNUA/Chicago and WJZW/Washington PD) Carl Anderson opined, "Allen, I love your 'new music' angle. When the product is there, it can offer a fresh, contemporary approach. This is the kind of talking points that are needed to hammer in front of agencies."

AC WMGN/Madison PD Pat O'Neill states that Mindi Abair's recent comment in The Straight Skinny sparked a change in his programming stance. You may recall that Abair observed that Sade and Anita Baker are played every 10 minutes. "They are great artists, but don't you think Smooth Jazz listeners are a bit tired of them after 30 years of them in constant high rotation?"

I, on the other hand, received a ton of reaction to the Straight Skinny on BA – shall we just say it was critical, and all off the record. Yes, I hear you and feel your pain. But have you ever imagined how many over-the-air format outlets we'd have left today, but for the Smooth Jazz Network?
