The views expressed by Carol Archer do not necessarily reflect the opinions of All That Jazz. But often they do. |

She digs deep to cull songs from others genres, left-field sources and so-called alternate versions – including the remixes and live tracks that sound so exciting on KIFM's air -- to create homegrown hits for San Diego. Furthermore, Cole hand-schedules the station's music logs. What a trouper -- not to mention a four-time winner of the prestigious R&R Industry Achievement Award for Smooth Jazz MD of the Year.
5. And KIFM champions new music and new artists with the zeal of Greenpeace activists protesting the slaughter of baby seals.
Programmers who are not getting the results they want and need, unlike Vasquez, might do well to heed KIFM's winning practices, because pardon me: "Game on!" It's all about revenue – just as always, except that expectations today are off the chain, and the stakes have never been higher, or the consequences of not delivering more perilous.
Next week, we'll examine the central roles of marketing and research; promotions, community involvement, leadership and more in the second and final column spotlighting KIFM.
As always, I welcome your feedback, whatever it is. If you have any thoughts or observations about this column, or any Smooth Jazz-related issues, I urge you to share them. Reach out to me at 310-470-8003 or e-mail: jazzdolphingirl@gmail.com.
Meanwhile, have a great week and stay smooth.
