The world lost a beloved, charismatic talent and radiant spirit: bassist Wayman Tisdale, who succumbed to cancer at age 44.

And, after 36 years, Nielsen Company shuttered R&R in June.

A HORSE OF A DIFFERENT COLOR

Prominent artist manager Steve Chapman notes that in 2009, veteran Smooth Jazz artists Peter White, Rick Braun and Richard Elliot enjoyed their most successful touring year, ever.

And Jazz Cruises LLC sold-out all cabins for both 2010 Smooth Jazz Cruises by March 2009. Point being: yes, Virginia, there remains an avid, active audience for this music.

Former WQCD(CD101.9)/New York PD and KKSF morning man and MD Blake Lawrence launched a wickedly satirical blog of "imaginary" radio news, www.AllTheExcess.com ("The radio dirt all the other sites left behind"). It's sidesplitting.

And Mack Avenue Records President Denny and his wife, Rachel (nee Lewis) Stilwell, welcomed a daughter: Olivia Rose.
